Laptops have such an importance that companies offer “choose a laptop of your choice” as a point of sale in their needed ads. And when someone else pays, we want the best for the best. Even though we sometimes work with limited budgets, that does not mean we want a terrible laptop.
This article will talk about the best laptops for coding, while analyzing a combination of the right operating system, resources and convenience. Without exaggerating, let’s review The best developing laptops for 2022.
This machine is one of my favorite laptops ever. I owned a Dell XPS 15 from a few years ago, and it still runs strong. The new models feature a 13.4- and 17-inch display, fantastic performance, tons of configuration options, and look amazing.
To be honest, the only laptop I would leave behind the Dell XPS line is the MackBook Pro, which we will talk about later in the post.
If there is anything we can certify for Dell, are configuration options, each of these laptops can be configured in several sets for the processor, all of them latest Intel processors, graphics card, memory ranging from 16 to 32 GB of RAM.
Dedicated graphic performance allows you to handle high-quality graphic works, such as video editing or processing. Another great thing about it is its battery. It has an excellent battery life, which means you do not have to be strapped to a desk every time you want to program with this powerful device.
Laptops officially do not support Linux, and even if you ask Dell operators, they will say that it does not work. However, most Linux distributions will run smoothly on these devices. I run everything on my laptop from Arch, Manjaro, Linux Mint and Ubuntu.
Apple MacBook Pro with M1 chip
We can not talk about The best laptops for programming Not to mention the MacBook Pro. Even since 2015, when Apple did everything wrong about these devices, they were still a solid option. But with the introduction of the new generation of MacBook Pro, powered by M1 chips, the MacBook Pro is back to being, without a doubt, The best laptop right now.
The laptop comes in 14- and 16-inch displays, both amazing, with amazing performance and the high quality you expect from Apple products. I can not even begin to describe how ridiculously fast these things are.
I will not go into too much detail about these devices. You can find tons of reviews on YouTube, and here’s one:
On top of such a device beast, MacOS is perfect for developers because it combines a sleek and smooth interface with a powerful command line and UNIX-like architecture that gives the best of both worlds. If budget is not an issue, it’s worth buying a MacBook Pro.
And if you’re a mobile developer, check out this Twitter thread:
We recently discovered that the new M1 devices from 2021 cut Android’s build times by half.
So for a team of 9, $ 32,000 of laptops will actually save $ 100,000 in productivity during 2022. The break-even point occurs after 3 months.
TL; DR engineering hours are much more expensive than laptops!

Apple MacBook Air with M1 chip
The Apple MacBook Air is a vital refresh and has introduced some significant updates, a fast and responsive interface, noiseless use, a design similar to the latest model and lacking a fan, making it one The best laptops for web development.
While not a powerhouse like the MacBook Pro (or other high-tech Windows laptops), it comes with the new M1 chip, designed specifically for the Mac, and offers unmatched performance.
This laptop will not disappoint you, and it will handle all the daily tasks without any problems, making it perfect Budget laptop For those who want MacOS.
Dell Inspiron is a Budget laptop Which suits the needs of many developers, with multiple configurations allowing him to expand his available memory making him a strong candidate for Network Developers.
This laptop has won the hearts of many developers as it is an inexpensive solution for running Linux and Windows with good performance.
Microsoft Surface laptop
The Microsoft Surface laptop is one of the best laptops you can get to run Windows. I’ve never tried a Microsoft laptop, but I have friends who do, and they’m happy with it.
I’m not a Windows guy, and even if these devices can run Linux, it’s a bit like an injustice, so I’m moving away from them.
But make no mistake, these are powerful laptops with the latest Intel processors, graphics cards and much more.
So if you are a Windows user, it’s not easy.
System76’s Oryx Pro
System76 is a company that builds computers and laptops for Linux. They even have their own Linux distribution called PopOS, which is based on Ubuntu.
Although I have never had one like this myself, it is on my wish list because the company claims that their hardware works perfectly on Linux, making it a great experience.
All laptops come with PopOS or Ubuntu installed, and the configurations are endless. Choose the one that best suits your needs and budget, and enjoy!
There is no such thing as one laptop that will control them all. It all depends on personal preferences, operating system, budget, etc.
I use hardcore Linux, at least on my personal device, but I run MacOS on the work laptop. I have an appreciation for both, although Linux is still my favorite operating system.
However, now that I’m trying to get back to YouTube and live streaming, Linux can sometimes be a headache. Hence, I am considering moving away from my Dell XPS to one of the MacBook Pro.
Nothing decided yet, but maybe you’ll see me soon enough on Twitter screaming on my new laptop 🙂
